Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Baccano Baroque Ensemble consists of Finland’s leading early music specialists. The concert programme presents English Baroque music (e.g. Purcell, Byrd and Dowland) as well as Italian composers who influenced England (e.g. Geminiani).

The Motiv Quartet is a newcomer among the top Finnish quartets, and this is the group’s first visit to Central Ostrobothnia. The concert begins a series presenting Pehr Henrik Nordgren’s string quartets. In addition, the programme includes a commissioned composition for the Chamber Music Week, a string quartet by Swede Britta Byström, as well as extracts from the core repertoire of string quartet literature.
Pekko Pulakka is the concertmaster of the orchestra of the Finnish National Opera. Essi Höglund is one of the most talented violinists of the young generation and is a familiar face, for example, at the Kokkola SyysKamari event. Jakob Dingstad is the solo violist of the Radio Symphony Orchestra and Lauri Kankkunen is the solo cellist of the Helsinki City Orchestra.

The Whims of the Sun King

The Whims of the Sun King is a fast-paced dramatized show that tells funny and strange true stories about the life of Louis XIV, the Sun King who ruled France in the 17th century, accompanied by Baroque music composed for the court of Versailles.
The music of the performance will be the works of composers who worked at the Sun King’s court and its sphere of influence during the Baroque era, such as Lully, Charpentier, Jacquet de la Guerre, Hotteterre and de Visée.
Age recommendation 5–100 years.

Top soprano Helena Juntunen and pianist Eveliina Kytömäki are a high-quality Lied duo, and in this concert they will be joined by young French horn player Iiro Koskinen from Kokkola. The programme is a fascinating interweaving of Viennese and Finnish music: Franz Schubert’s wonderful Auf dem Strom for soprano, piano and French horn begins the concert, which also includes the masterful songs of Alban Berg and Alma Mahler, as well as the treasures of Toivo Kuula’s production born 140 years ago.

The musical jewel of the Finnish western coast and much-loved regular guest orchestra of the Chamber Music Week, the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, serves new and old in its concert. The new work commissioned by the orchestra from Sebastian Fagerlund, one of the leading Finnish composers of our time, will be accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s Serenade and lesser-known Romantic gems, works for string orchestra by Ida Moberg and Rebecca Clarke. Tchaikovsky’s Serenade is punctuated by small commentary pieces by Finnish composition students between parts.
